Del Ray is a neighborhood of the city of Alexandria in Northern Virginia. Some would say this community got its start in the early 19th century as people and businesses began to pop up around the railroad. It is one of Alexandria's first commuting suburbs of the Washington D.C. metro area.
 

Things to Do in Del Ray Neighborhood

Del Ray is considered an "urban delight" with Mount Vernon Avenue at its "center. This main street area is where much of the activity in the Del Ray neighborhood takes place. It has a main street feel to it with many loved local outdoor cafes, grab and go eateries, and sit down restaurants. The tree lined streets make it a beautiful place to take a stroll. You can also find local events, great boutique shops, and a festival every first Thursday of the month.
 
For those that would prefer to be outside there are a large number of outdoor areas in the Del Ray neighborhood. Some of the most popular outdoor spaces include Long Bridge Park, Four Mile Run Park, Potomac Greens Park, and The Birchmere.
 
There are many more activities just minutes from the Del Ray neighborhood as well including Old Town Alexandria, Washington D.C. just across the river, Arlington, and Crystal City.
 

Commuting From the Del Ray Neighborhood

Del Ray is very close to Washington D.C. and offers quick access just across the river for those commuting by car. For commuters that prefer public transportation, there is the Braddock Road Metro Station on the south end of the neighborhood and soon the north end will be served by the Potomac Yard Station.

There is a nice mixture of homes, home styles, homes sizes, and home ages in Del Ray. From historic single family homes that tell a story about the area's beginning to impressive brand new condo buildings withing walking distance of Mount Vernon Avenue or the Metro Station. Homes range in price from the mid $200,000s to $1.3 million.
 

Schools

The public schools that serve the Del Ray neighborhood are all part of the Alexandria City Public School District. The specific schools serving this neighborhood include Jefferson-Houston Elementary School, Jefferson-Houston Middle School, and T.C. Williams High School.
 
In addition to public schools, Alexandria is home to many of the D.C. area's top private schools. Some of the most notable private schools in Alexandria include: St. Stephen's and St. Agnes School, Bishop Ireton High School, and Episcopal High School.
 
There are a few colleges located in Alexandria including the Alexandria Campus of Northern Virginia Community College, Virginia Theological Seminary, Virginia Tech's Washington-Alexandria Architecture Center in Old Town, Virginia Commonwealth University Northern Branch, and The George Washington University.
